MILAN (AP) — Prada brought nature indoors as a backdrop for its 2024-25 fall and winter menswear collection meant to get humans outside. The new Prada collection, unveiled on the third day of Milan Fashion Week menswear previews Sunday, marked “the return of the seasons,’’ as a point of renewal of the spirit, co-creative director Miuccia Prada said backstage. Without falling into strict categories of office wear and outdoor wear, Prada said that the collection “was meant for going outside,” and spending time there, not just as a point of transit. Raf Simons, Prada’s co-creative director, said the collection referenced water in its many forms: the sea, rain, a stream, ice. Always political, the Prada collection references climate change, but without being explicit.

In the past year, clothing retailers have sought to clear excess stock that had piled up due to a shift in consumer demand to essentials from discretionary items like clothing. But with fourth-quarter temperatures expected to start off warm, according to weather tracking firm Weather Trends International, stores carrying winter styles and gear could find themselves loaded with inventory at the end of the season. European company Pepco Group (PCOP.WA) also noted that the landing of its autumn and winter clothing inventory had coincided with persistent record-warm weather in its core Central and Eastern European markets. In the United States, temperatures could rise by 2 to 12 degrees Fahrenheit on average in the October-December period compared with last year, according to Weather Trends International. Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF.N) also said there was strong demand for "seasonless products" in the second quarter, particularly in the men's category, as customers picked out year-round clothing items and styles.

MILAN (AP) — A hush fell over the Fendi runway as the front-row filled with supermodels signaling the show was about to begin: Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Kate Moss had taken their seats. Kim Jones’ Spring-Summer 2024 collection for Fendi unveiled during the first day of Milan Fashion Week on Wednesday was a twist on knitwear, anchored by leather. The first look set the tone: A form-hugging color-block knit dresses in mocha, baby blue, salmon and ivory, with a double sash trailing at the waist lending drama and movement. Slinky, clinging monochrome knit dresses had peekaboo cutouts. A chunkier ribbed knit gave a chenille-soft appearance in a long jacket and skirt with a healthy front slit.

This summer, the culture journalist turned art adviser Fiona Mackay launched Kombi, an online gallery and retailer that specializes in South African art, design and craft and caters to the American market. “Because of geography and logistics, so much of this work hasn’t been shown stateside, and I wanted to rectify that,” says Mackay, who was raised in Cape Town and now lives in Brooklyn. Kombi, named for the Volkswagen minibuses that were ubiquitous during Mackay’s childhood, will present work from both emerging and more established makers, offering readily buyable pieces, as well as made-to-order and limited-edition works. “I hope [Kombi] becomes both a cultural and commercial exchange,” says Mackay, who also plans to initiate residencies and collaborations, creating opportunities for American artists to produce work in South Africa and vice versa. Cele plans to show the work with Kombi at an exhibition this autumn in New York.
